SPECIAL CAMPS 2008 - open to adults and kids

To participate in the weekend horse trials, additional expenses will be incurred (transportation for horse, stall for one or two nights, registration fee for classes). My horse trailer only holds four horses - so first four to sign up will be able to go.

1) Once Upon a Horse Fun Raiser (schooling show) in Eagle, Idaho, on June 9 & 10. First day will be dressage classes and combined training classes (eventing dressage test plus a stadium course). Second day will be a one-day horse trial. Great place to do your first event or to train horses new to eventing. They have LOW level jumping classes.

2) Beach Trip - We will haul horses to Nehalem Bay on June 20 where there are sites for horses and campers (reservations already made).  We plan to stay the whole week on the beach with riding twice a day on the beach side and/or bay side with the exception of two afternoons when we will travel to local towns to check out the attractions. Kids will all sleep together in Kozowski's teepee and adults will be spread around to keep horses and kids safe throughout the nights.  We will return to Wallowa County on June 27. Campers may be picked up on June 20 in Portland area and/or meet parents there on the way home.  Price is regular camp fee ($500) plus gas money to person hauling their horse ($125 last year).  Send $100 deposit to hold spot.

3) Barbara Cimino Memorial Horse Trial - a recognized USEA show in Eagle, Idaho. Two one-day events (July 6 and 8) with a dressage show on the 7th. Must be entered about a month before the event.

4) RiverQuest Horse Trial (schooling show)on July 19 - put on by Wallowa Mountain Pony Club. A one-day show right here at home.

5) MountainAire Horse Trial (schooling show) on August 11 - Also here in Wallowa County.

6) Quinn Meadow Trail riding camp - It is possible we can travel to Bend area to trail ride near Mt. Bachelor during the August 9-15 camp. We can't make reservations until February, but if anyone is interested in doing this (adult or child), please let me know and I will plan accordingly. Gail Murphey & RiverQuest riverqst@eoni.com

7) Once Upon a Horse Fun Raiser - on Sept. 1 and 2. Same format as show on June 9 & 10 in Eagle, Idaho.

LESSONS

Each rider will have a private lesson every morning. There will be group lessons in the afternoons. Riders will learn how to tack up their horses, take proper care of the horse and tack, and clean their horses' stalls.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES

For the Kids' Camps, a trip to Wallowa Lake is scheduled every Wednesday afternoon for swimming and go-carts. Each rider is encouraged to bring her favorite movie (horse), a journal, and a camera.

WHAT TO BRING

Helmet, boots, riding clothes for five days of lessons (leggings work well), pjs, swim suit, towel, pillow, sunscreen, allergy medication, chap stick, toiletries and phone card.

Let the friendships continue and more memories be made with a
Grande Ronde River trip to end your summer horse camp experience. Click here for more info.
